I'm am SO going to kill that travel agent.

Great Blue Heron
Ardea herodias

He just looked so … disappointed at what he found at Tinicum. Another birder mentioned that their local blue heron was found dead this morning. As frozen over as the lake was, I hope that this guy is finding some food.

Maybe I’ll stop by the fish market to throw him out some morsels…

  • the herons around my parents house keep pecking at the ice of my folks’ koi pond trying to get the hibernating fishes

  • What a shame!! Hope this guy/gal is alright!

  • Van – I remember seeing a Ellen DeGeneres interview (Leno? Letterman? Who knows) about how she had just moved into a nice new place and she was so excited that it had this really nice pond. So, she bought all of these really expensive fish, and then was shocked when they started disappearing. So, she assumes that someone knows how valuable they are and has been taking them, so she starts staking out her pond.

That’s when she watched as this ‘huge stork bird comes out of nowhere’ and starts eating her hundred-dollar fish. I had to laugh, and even she did, too. She said that she tried all of these methods but got tired of losing so she just started buying buckets of $1 goldfish. Which the heron ignored.

Tom – I’m curious enough that I will probably head down there this weekend to find out. Maybe I’ll bring some big goldfish or carp from the Asian market for him.
