Making Caterpillars

Going out to Forsyth NWR yesterday with my buddies Joe and Bake proved to be quite an educational experience. Not only were they able to ID birds on the fly at 1,000 paces by the trailing edge of a single feather, but Joe picked out these butterflies with the naked eye.

This is a pair of Henry’s Elfin, a type of hairstreak that inhabits woodlands on the edges of marshy areas. There were a ton of them fluttering about, but here a couple found each other.
