Interesting Morning

Well, it certainly was an interesting morning. We woke up before six because our dog Miles was having a seizure. He had one on our way home from the beach in August, but we thought that was brought on by heat stroke – no chance of that last night. It was scary – he was whimpering, couldn’t get up (his back legs weren’t working) and we were having a hard time calming him down. Continue reading

Hair of the Dog

Real Fact*: The average golden retriever can give off 170 cubic feet of hair in a single week.

It was a less productive weekend than it was supposed to be, and I blame the miserable weather. It really rained all of Saturday, and today was a windstorm that prevented me from doing most of the stuff that I wanted to outside. I did, however, spend a good amount of time picking up, sweeping, scooping and vacuuming dog hair out of every corner of our house. I swear that they are dropping a pound of hair every time they move.

On a lighter note, I did get some good stuff done that I had been putting off. Now that we have our finances more organized, I was able to get some computer hardware that I needed – a new Seagate 1TB internal hard drive, and a new scanner to scan images from my grandfather’s collection. I can’t wait to play with them.

Phillies: a month later

Superstar! I also finally went through my pictures from the Phillies World Series Championship parade. You can check out the whole set here (or click on the image to go to the set). It was fun going back through the pictures, although I’m still a little bummed that a) I was shooting through glass when I had my D200 and b) that my D200 ran out of battery just before the Phillies went by (hence the iPhone shots). Oh well.

* = there is no scientific proof this fact is true.

Everybody’s Working for the Weekend

Or working ON the weekend, as the case may be. But the skies are bright, the weather is warm and Shari no longer has a kidney stone so it’s not a bad place to be, even if the house needs to be dealt with. So, I’ll be out making the house look prettier, feeding the birds and eventually putting in some hours at my real job so that I can go to NC in 10 days without any guilt.

I have it on good authority…

that I’m a dumbass. In the immortal words of “That 70′s Show”:

Eric: I don’t know. You know, it seems like bad things are always happening to me, like I have bad luck or something.
Red: [slowly] Son, you don’t have bad luck. The reason that bad things happen to you is because you’re a dumbass.

Upgraded, Downsides and Sidetracked

Well, we had our 5th and 6th softball games this week, and at best I had a mediocre week. The lines:

Game 5: 0-3, 0R, 0RBI — 10C, 5PO, 2E
Game 6: 1-3, 1R, 0RBI — 12C, 9PO, 0E

Tuesday’s game was probably the worst I’ve ever played. I got good contact on the ball but hit it TO someone every time. And defensively I made two big errors and one costly mental mistake. We still won, with no help from me. Continue reading

Portrait of the Tax Payer as a Young Emu

Portrait of the Tax Payer as a Young Emu

I feel like this emu right now – pulling my hair out after having waited until the last minute to do my taxes. You know – more than a little disheveled, with that glassy look in my eye.

Taken at Noah’s Ark, a great little refuge that takes in unwanted or illegal wild animals and tries to give them a better life, located near Locust Grove, GA. You can learn more about the refuge here.

Is it Just Me?

Or are these two eerily similar?  I’m just sayin’.

When it rains…

When it rains...

We had just gotten home from grocery shopping and I was making some brunch when our neighbor came to the door.

“Um, do you know that you have a branch through the back window of your car?”

Needless to say, I didn’t. It turns out that a large branch from one of our oaks had landed across the entire top of my car – this part through the back windshield, and another section that dented the roof in 3 places in the back and 2 in the front, both of which cracked the front windshield, too.

Oh, did I mention the driving rain we were having at the time?

99 pieces of wood on the lawn…

…and a yo ho ho and a bottle of Advil.

Last Friday, some township workers knocked on our door to ask me to move my car to protect it from the blighted oak tree they were going to cut down in our neighbors yard . But I asked them if they wouldn’t mind leaving some of that wood on the planning strip so that I could get some firewood out of it. Continue reading

2007 Scorecard

Well, another year has past and we’re on the cusp of hitting 2008 in stride. And as usual, everyone will make resolutions about all of the things that they will do better in 2008 than they did in 2007. BUT, how did I do on the goals I set for THIS year? Let’s take a look: Continue reading
