I hate being sick. I knew that it was coming – with 3 or 4 of my close co-workers having some sort of cold last week, but was hoping it would bypass me. No such luck – although I think I missed the major version that they had. Even so, I had to work from home on Tuesday and still felt pretty wiped yesterday. Continue Reading »

I finally got out for some birding on Saturday morning at Palmyra Cove. It was a little chilly, and there weren’t any real big migrants there, but I still have a good time. One of the highlights was seeing quite a few Field Sparrows (Spizella pusilla) – a species I had seen before but not yet photgraphed. This little casanova was singing his heart out near the beaver pond. Continue Reading »

Well, it’s been a busy week. After getting increasingly good news about Jim, I’ve been heads down working day and night. Night has been spent working up the HTML and CSS templates for ZeroPercentCards.com, so that Van can work his database and backend magic. Continue Reading »

Well, after a scare at the end of last week, things took a turn for the better over the weekend. Grandpop was back to his old self (well, at least he was back to having some strength and liveliness), although he did check himself out of the hospital a day early against doctor’s orders. This is one of the most impressive feats I have seen in a while (a quarters demonstration extraordinaire)

The AFI has announced its list of the Top 100 movie quotes of all time. Many of them are no-brainers.
- #1 “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.” – GONE WITH THE WIND (1939)
- #3 “You don’t understand! I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I could’ve been somebody, instead of a bum, which is what I am.” – ON THE WATERFRONT (1954)
- #4 “Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” – THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939)
- #5 “Here’s looking at you, kid.” – CASABLANCA (1942)
- #6 “Go ahead, make my day.” – SUDDEN IMPACT (1983)
Some are a bit more odd (such as “E.T. Phone Home” – E.T. (1982). But they missed a LOT of classics. Some that we came up with today…
- “Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?” – Animal House
- “The first rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club.” – Fight Club
- “I have a bad feeling about this.” – Star Wars
- “See, it’s social. Demented and sad, but social…” – Breakfast Club
- “Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman’s back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days” – Bull Durham
- “I know you don’t smoke weed, I know this; but I’m gonna get you high today, ’cause it’s Friday; you ain’t got no job… and you ain’t got sh!t to do.” – Friday
- “The Price is Wrong … bitch” – Happy Gilmore
- Elwood: “It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we’ve got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.”
Jake: “Hit it.” – Blues Brothers
- “I see dead people” – Sixth Sense
- “Yeah, I mean aside from the cheating, we were a great couple. I mean that’s what high school was about, algebra, bad lunch, and infidelity.” – Clerks (a second kudos to “37!?!?” … but I kind of understand that one).
- “It looks like I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue.” – Airplane
I mean, how did they miss these classics?
