NWRA Notice

Late last year, I entered some of my pictures into a contest sponsored by the National Wildlife Refuge Association. I got a notice yesterday that at least one of my photos had been selected as a winner. The pictures had to be taken in a National Wildlife Refuge – actually, I think that was the only requirement. Anyway, I didn’t win the contest (although an acquaintance of mine got 2nd place), but I was named a ‘winner’ – or one of the top 500 pictures out of all of the entries. Okay, so I won’t be opening a gallery any time soon, but I’m pretty psyched. Here are the entries that they liked:

Feed Me!
Pretty Lady
Against the Sky

You can see my entries starting with this one in the contest Zenfolio gallery.

  • I just looked over and I see that Michael is looking at the same thing I am. Maybe I’ll post my comment before he does. 🙂

Congrats on the contest. I like the composition and simplicity of the last photo a lot, but it’s really cool to see the detail of the first one. It’s great that they recognized your skill.

  • Congratulations, Marty! Great shots, I especially like the last one, with the stark background and the reflection. You should feel proud that you got a few picked as winners. And it’s not like you got beat by some chumps, either, the shots that placed are awesome, too, so you should feel good about that.

I’m not sure if what I said makes any sense. It does to me, at least.

  • Blast! Sarah beat me to the punch.

  • The moth shot is awesome and the last one is like a piece of minimalist music. great stuff.

  • Thanks, everyone. It’s nice to get some sort of notice, even if I didn’t win the car, camera or trip. But looking at the other shots makes me really want to get out there and do some more shooting. This weekend is looking promising … Van, do you want to learn how to bird?

  • Congratulations and without a doubt all of these photos could have been #1 in my book! Maybe you get a gift card at B&H or something! Congrats!
