Softball and Work Shoes

Marty May 9th, 2007

Well, we had another softball game yesterday, and unfortunately lost the game 21-12. But I was much happier with my play. I only got 2 innings (which was understandable considering last week’s play), but I got some batting practice in which made me more confident at the plate, which led to a hit at my only at bat. Hopefully next week I’ll get a few more swings…

But what was really funny (well, not really) was that I am a moron. I left the house for the game without beer and/or my hat. Okay, not such a big deal since Shari was going to try to make it and she could bring both. Except she didn’t - and then I discovered when I got to the field that I had forgotten my cleats. In other words, in a marvelous exercise in stupidity, I ended up playing in my work shoes. It wouldn’t have been so bad except that they have NO traction, so I looked like a little old lady running out there… and now those shoes need some serious TLC to recover from the dirt and grit. But hey - I got a hit, finally, and they’re only shoes.

That’s certainly not ideal, but it worked well enough if you got a hit at your only at-bat. And pristine shoes are overrated anyway.

Actually, I was at first, so I was more of a Von Hayes out there…
