Not a Good Start

This weekend was a bit of a wash, despite the beautiful weather. My wife and I went out to get the latest collection of flowers for our gardens, and had big plans to add a new gate to our garbage can corral, followed by a day off on Sunday. What transpired instead was both of us being waylaid by sinus headaches that would have stopped an elephant on Saturday, and trying to compensate by getting stuff done on Sunday, which didn’t work so well.

Luckily, both of us felt better Sunday and were able to take advantage of the beautiful weather. We went down to Cooper River to watch our niece in the high school regatta going on, which was fun. It was also nice to get out and try another type of photography, although I really struggled with it (there’s such a big difference between wildlife and sport photography). Still it was a nice day, near the water.

Yesterday, I got to play my second softball game (I missed last week’s because of being home sick). Unfortunately, my swing seemed to have left me – I was 0 for 2, with 2 puffer hits to the infield. First one I just went for a bad pitch; the second one I just miffed. I have to head to a batting cages this weekend – or at least get some batting practice in before the game to get my stroke.

Oh well – 0 for 2 isn’t the end of the world. I fielded fairly well on my 2 chances, although I was told to hit my cut-off man – which was odd because I hit my true cutoff man at second instead of the shortstop who came halfway out into centerfield. I think I could have made it most of the way to home but I really didn’t want to test the arm that way on a dead play. I may get some softballs and toss them in from the outfield at the local field to stretch out and find my range.

I finally got the chance to write some reviews on Epinions about our trip. Feel free to take a look.

  • I have the same problem wtih my camera settings when switching from people to wildlife! Wasn’t Sunday a wonderful day?

  • I’m glad you’re not worrying too much about 0 for 2. It sounds like you’ve got the skills, you just need a little practice. I’d be starting from scratch.

Glad you’re getting your bike tuned up. I hope you manage to drag Van out for a ride, that’s a great idea!

  • I think you still have more basehits than Nunez at this point
