The Other Half

Common Whitetail - female
Plathemis lydia

When I saw this dragonfly yesterday, I just wanted to get a good shot of it because I thought it was an attractive dragonfly. It wasn’t until I got home that I figured out what it was - well, at least after a little help.

Originally, I thought it was a female Twelve-spotted Skimmer, but I was corrected on Bugguide.net. Turns out that it is a Common Whitetail female. Strangely, it doesn’t look like a white tail at all to me.
