Some weeks, it’s great to be a sports fan

I had a good weekend for sports this weekend. The Flyers won (5-3), Penn State beat Ohio State and jumped up to #8 in the rankings, and the Cowboys beat the Eagles. Not too shabby. Before I catch a ream of crap, anyone that knows me knows that I have been a Cowboys fan since I was 6, when Randy White lived down the street from me. I’m an Eagles fan, too – except when it comes to the Cowboys. First loves and all that.

I do have to say that it was funny reading the Sunday Philadelphia Inquirer this morning and recalling all of the naysaying that happened regarding the Cowboy’s chances. From Don McKee’s Incites column, regarding the low level of ‘excitement’ about this game:

All of this raises a question: Is this even a rivalry anymore? The Eagles have beaten the Cowboys 10 of their 12 meetings under Andy Reid and nine of their last 10. Or is beating the Cowboys one of those things that never get old?

On the game preview page, they had the Eagles winning 3 categories out of 4 (Offense, Defense and X-Factor, with only Special Teams giving the ‘Boys the edge). And I quote from the “X-Factor” section:

Well, the Cowboys aren’t exactly a team that shoots out of the gates. If they’re bad at finishing games, go ahead and call them horrendous at starting them.

Strange, I seem to recall a heck of an opening salvo. So, for once, I get to brag a little.

Oh, and one more thing – this time regarding the headline about the Penn State victory. I think that an editor needed to take a little better look at this: “Penn State seals upset on late hit, turnover”. Makes it sound like a cheap shot, doesn’t it?
